Welcome to News Briefs

July 2010

Dear Alumni,

Whether you are a parent, grandparent, community leader or neighbor to school age children, you should be aware of and concerned with how we support our Public Schools. So I encourage all alumni, especially those from Business and Education, to attend this special moderator facilitated dialogue: "Why Business Needs to Invest in and Support our Public Schools" which will feature a very informed group of panelists discussing the challenges we face in 2010/2011. The evening will be moderated by Martha Vukelich-Austin, President of the Foundation for Madison’s Public Schools and is sponsored by Edgewood College MBA programming. Click here to learn more about our panelists and to RSVP. Plan to join us for the networking event following the discussion.

The Edgewood College Magazine mailed last week, so please look for it, and then enjoy! Let us know if you have not seen it and we will make sure one is mailed to you. There are many successes to be excited about at your alma mater that you can read about in the Magazine.

We hope you are having an enjoyable and relaxing summer. Please keep in touch and enjoy the news.

Kathy O'Connor Watch for your copy of the Edgewood College Magazine in late June. Enjoy the news!

Warmest Regards,

Kathy O’Connor, Alumni Director

Eagle Golf Outing 2010 was a Huge Success!

A record number of alumni golfers were on hand for the June 25th Eagle Golf Outing held at the Meadows of Sixmile Creek in Waunakee. Perfect weather and record attendance all enhanced the outing that raises money for Edgewood College Athletics. Mark your calendar for next year's outing on June 24th, 2011. These photos were taken on the 9th tee box as alumni were about to try for the $5,000 prize for a hole in one. Sadly, no one took that prize home!

The Jenzabar Foundation Announces 2009 Student Leadership Award Recipients

The Jenzabar Foundation announced the winners of its 2009 Student Leadership Awards, recognizing ten student-led campus groups and projects that have made a significant contribution to better the world outside of their institutions of higher education. Stacie Pinzl, an Edgewood College student and AmeriCorps (M3C) volunteer, was one of the 10 Award Recipients honored. Stacie has provided critical leadership and coordination for a central campus volunteers program that provides after-school support to children in one of Madison's largest homeless shelters. Over the 2008-2009 academic year, Stacie has single-handedly organized and coordinated an ongoing effort to recruit Edgewood College student volunteers, making it feasible to operate the after-school recreational programming for children in the Madison shelter.
