Freshman Financial Aid
Edgewood College is committed to helping each student and family through the
financial aid process and we strive to make our high quality education affordable.
Last year over 98% of entering first-year students received grants or scholarships
from Edgewood College. With merit-based scholarships available for excellence in academics,
leadership and fine arts and numerous awards available for families with need, we are
often able to provide a financial aid package that is competitive with nearly every
institution that a student is considering.

Tuition & Costs for the 2009–2010 Academic Year

- Be accepted for admission to Edgewood College.
- Fill out the optional Edgewood College Student Aid Estimator between November 1 and February 1.
- Apply for additional scholarships by completing the Edgewood College Financial Aid Application. (Application deadline is March 1, 2010.)
- Obtain a PIN (for at least 1 parent and the student) at www.pin.ed.gov. The PIN serves as an electronic signature in order to complete the FAFSA online.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Priority Application Deadline is March 1, 2010. You may file your FAFSA after January 1.

Students admitted to Edgewood College are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships based on a combination of cumulative GPA and ACT score. No additional application is required to receive these scholarships. Continuous, full-time enrollment is required to retain these renewable scholarships.
Presidential Scholarship - This is Edgewood College’s most prestigious academic scholarship. The average GPA for recipients is a 3.75 with an average ACT score of 27. The Presidential Scholarship is worth $36,000 over four years ($9,000 per year).
Dominican Scholarship – The average GPA for recipients is a 3.7 with an average ACT score of 25. The Dominican Scholarship is worth $28,000 over four years ($7,000 per year).
Founders Scholarship – The average GPA for recipients is a 3.4 with an average ACT score of 23. The Founders Scholarship is worth $18,000 over four years ($4,500 per year).
Heritage Scholarship – The average GPA for recipients is a 3.0 with an average ACT score of 20. The Heritage Scholarship is worth $10,000 over four years ($2,500 per year).
Voyager Scholarship – This academic scholarship is for qualified students who receive the Presidential or Dominican Scholarship and live outside the state of Wisconsin. This scholarship is worth an additional $8,000 ($2,000 per year).
Students admitted to Edgewood College are invited to apply for one or more of the following renewable awards. To apply for these awards, complete the Edgewood College Financial Aid Application. The Priority Application Deadline is March 1, 2010. Please note. Some awards are not available after the deadline and only the awards with later deadlines will be available on the application.
Cor Ad Cor Award ($500–$3,000) – Awarded to students who have demonstrated the potential for success by overcoming significant challenges or hardships. Students from unique backgrounds and with diverse life experiences are encouraged to apply. This award is not based upon ACT scores or high school GPA. Click here to apply.
Ethnic Studies Award ($500-$1,500) – Awarded to students who plan to pursue a minor in Ethnic Studies. Ethnic Studies is an interdisciplinary minor that examines identity, language, religious and cultural practices, economics, and values across diverse populations in the United States. Fine Arts Award ($1000–$2,000) – Awarded to talented students who plan to continue their participation in the areas of Art, Music, Theatre, Writing, and Foreign Languages at Edgewood College. Mazzuchelli Award ($500–$2,000) – Awarded to students who are actively developing their spiritual life and plan to participate in opportunities available through College Ministries at Edgewood College. Students who have a record of noteworthy participation and service within a religious congregation or faith based organization are encouraged to apply. Click here to apply.
Predolin Scholarship ($4,000-$6,000) – Awarded to high achieving students with financial need who plan to major in the areas of science, engineering, medicine, nursing or business. Click here to apply.
Community Scholars Award – Awarded to students who are academically motivated Dane County residents who demonstrate financial need. Students with a strong interest in serving the civic needs of Dane County during college and after graduation are encouraged to apply. Institutional, Federal,
and State Financial Aid
Students who complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, will be considered for the following programs. (Priority Application Deadline: March 1, 2010)
Institutional Financial Aid
Edgewood College Grant – An institutional grant awarded to students who demonstrate financial need. This grant does not need to be repaid.
Edgewood College Employment – This program provides jobs for students allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses.
Federal and State Financial Aid
Federal Pell Grant - A federally funded need based grant awarded to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree and who have exceptional need.
Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG) - A federally funded need based grant awarded to undergraduate students, with priority given to Pell Grant recipients.
Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) - A new grant program for full time undergraduate students enrolled in an eligible program who receive Federal Pell Grants. Students must have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study. Offered to freshmen and sophomore students only.
National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National SMART Grant) - A new grant program for full time undergraduate students who are enrolled in the third or fourth academic year of an eligible program who receive Federal Pell Grants. Must be pursuing an eligible major in physical, life, or computer sciences, engineering, technology, mathematics or a critical need for foreign language and have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Federal Perkins Loan - a low-interest (5%) loan that must be repaid. Repayment begins nine months after you graduate, leave school, or drop below part-time status.
Federal Stafford Loan - A low interest student loan that must be repaid. Repayment begins six months after you graduate, leave school, or drop below part-time status. There are two types:
- Subsidized – awarded based on financial need. You are not responsible for interest while enrolled at least part-time.
- Unsubsidized – awarded to students regardless of financial need. You are responsible for interest that accrues during the life of the loan.
Federal PLUS Loan – available to parents of dependent undergraduate students who are enrolled at least part-time. The PLUS Loan is a low interest loan program that allows a parent to fund all or a portion of any remaining balance of their child’s educational expenses. A credit check is required and the loan must be repaid.

Wisconsin Tuition Grant - Wisconsin residents who attend Wisconsin private colleges such as Edgewood may be eligible for this grant program.
Wisconsin Talent Incentive Program - The Talent Incentive Program (TIP) is a State grant program designed to assist low income, disadvantaged students. The student must be a freshman to initially receive the grant. Grants may range up to $1800 per year, and are renewable freshman through senior years. Students can be nominated for the grant through the Wisconsin Educational Opportunity Program office or the Edgewood College Financial Aid Office.
Wisconsin Division of Vocational Rehabilitation - This Wisconsin agency serves students who have any disability which presents a substantial handicap to future employment.
