After their contest on the court, Wheaton College players and the Eagles demonstrate a commitment to community, and compassion.
The Edgewood College men’s basketball team had a memorable year in 2011-12 as they advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 2005. The Eagles defeated regional host 17th-ranked UW-River Falls in the first round, but Edgewood College’s season came to an end the following night when the Eagles fell to 24th-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) in the second round.
The first round win over UW-River Falls was the first NCAA Tournament victory in men’s basketball for Edgewood College and by any school in the Northern Athletics Conference. The Eagles were led by senior first team all-conference performers Ben Wisniewski and Kent Faurote. They were named first team All-NAC, and also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District first team honors.
Edgewood College student-athletes routinely perform well in the classroom. More than 100 Eagle athletes were NAC Scholar-Athletes (3.25 grade point average or higher) last season. Last fall Edgewood College student-athletes had a cumulative grade point average of 3.27. Since 2003-04 eight Eagles have been named Academic All-Americans and 29 Edgewood College student-athletes have earned Academic All-District honors.
