(October 15, 2012) – Edgewood College is pleased to welcome two accomplished theatre professionals to campus for two days of workshops and performance. The public is invited to attend along with students.
Cynthia Blaise: Best Vocal Practices for Stage and Screen is presented at 10:00 am, Thursday, October 18, 2012 in The Black Box. Ms. Blaise will talk about her interesting career and will do some simple workshop techniques that will benefit anyone interested in using their voice more effectively.
Keegan-Michael Key: An Interactive Conversation on Performing, Writing and Crafting an Identity in the Arts is presented at 7:00 pm, Thursday, October 18, 2012, in The Black Box.
Admission is free, but seats are limited. Please get tickets at the Box Office in The Stream beginning at 6:30 pm on Thursday the 18th.
Keegan-Michael Key & Cynthia Blaise on a Life in the Arts is presented at 11:00 am, Friday October 19, 2012 in The Black Box. Keegan-Michael Key and Cynthia Blaise share their journey together as professional, principled artists in the world of film and television.
Ms. Blaise and Mr. Key are welcomed to campus as Ahrens-Washburn Community Fellows.
Keegan-Michael Key is an award-winning actor and comedian. Currently he is half of the Comedy Central hit show, Key & Peele, and will be appearing in the comedy feature film, Hell Baby. Frequently seen on film and television, he performed as a cast member of MADtv beginning in 2004. He also played a substantial role on the CBS sitcom Gary Unmarried. He has worked as a cast member at Second City in both Detroit and Chicago, where he won a number of awards including the Joseph Jefferson Award for his work in the review Curious George Goes to War. Keegan- Michael Key received his MFA in acting from Penn State and a BFA from the University of Detroit-Mercy. In addition to his TV work, he is a talented and accomplished improviser, writer and actor in theatre and film.
Cynthia Blaise is a professional in the film and theatre industry as an actor and director, but she has spent a great deal of her time working as a speech and voice coach in the film industry.
She has worked as a voice and dialect coach on well over a hundred plays both in professional theatre (including The Second City in both Chicago and Detroit) and many educational theatres. She has also worked on many films as a dialect coach, including Eight Mile, The Affair of the Necklace, and Spitfire Grill, to name only a few.
Ms Blaise, who holds an MFA in acting from the University of California, Ervine, and is certified in the Fitzmaurice Method of voice instruction.
This event is presented as part of the Year of the Arts at Edgewood College, a celebration of music, theatre and art for 2012-2013. Supporters of our Year of the Arts programming include the Kohler Foundation, BMO Harris Bank, the Madison Arts Commission, with additional funds from the Wisconsin Arts Board, DANE Arts with additional funds from the Pleasant T.
