Bilingual Education – Program Options

Professional Development Sequence

Candidates may complete this sequence through participation in the C-TELL program (Connecting Teachers to English Language Learners). This unique program trains educators to meet the special needs of English Language Learners in specific elementary or secondary content areas of instruction. Tuition for the C-TELL program is fully funded through a grant from the Federal Office of English Language Acquisition. The two courses that comprise this sequence are 3-credits each and are available in an online format. Click here for more specific information about the C-TELL program.

Dual Language Immersion Institutional Certificate

This institutional certificate addresses the needs of educators working in one-way (foreign languages and indigenous languages), two-way, and developmental bilingual programs. Courses are offered in an online format and may be applied towards completion of the MA-Education in Bilingual Education. Each course is 3-credits; 12 credits total are required to complete the Institutional Certificate. Click here for more specific information about the DLI program.

Bilingual License Sequence

The 21-credit licensing program leads to a Wisconsin DPI license certification in Bilingual Education (WDPI 023). The program is designed for experienced teachers who wish to add this certification. Certain courses may be completed through the above mentioned C-TELL Professional Development sequence or the Institutional Certificate in Dual Immersion. All courses are 3-credits each and may be applied towards completion of the MA-Education in Bilingual Education.

Master of Arts in Education – Bilingual Education

Completing the Master of Arts in Education degree will give you the skills and knowledge to become a leader of Bilingual Education in your school or district. The Master of Arts in Education: Bilingual Education requires completion of the 21 credits listed in the License Sequence, plus the 4 three-credit courses listed below, plus 3 additional degree credits (course approved by advisor.) 36 credits total.
