ESL/TESOL Program Options

Professional Development Sequence

Candidates may complete this sequence through participation in the C-TELL program (Connecting Teachers to English Language Learners). This unique program trains educators to meet the special needs of English Language Learners in specific elementary or secondary content areas of instruction. Tuition for the C-TELL program is fully funded through a grant from the Federal Office of English Language Acquisition. The two courses that comprise this sequence are 3-credits each and are available in an online format. Click here for more specific information about the C-TELL program.

ESL License Sequence

The 18-credit licensing program leads to a Wisconsin DPI license certification in ESL (WDPI 395). The program is designed for experienced teachers who wish to add this certification. ED 605B and ED 604A may be taken through the Professional Development Sequence/C-TELL program. All courses are 3-credits each and may be applied towards completion of the MA-Education-TESOL.

Master of Arts in Education – TESOL

Completing the Master of Arts in Education degree will give you the skills and knowledge to become a leader of ESL Education in your school or district. The Master of Arts in Education: TESOL requires completion of the 18 credits listed in the License Sequence, plus the 4 three-credit courses listed below, plus 3 additional degree related credits (course approved by advisor). 33 credits total.

  • ED 624 Reading Diagnosis and Intervention I (practicum)
  • ED 629 Reading Diagnosis and Intervention II
  • ED 603 Introduction to Education Research
  • ED 692 Applied Research Thesis
