Applied Finance Graduate Certificate

The Applied Finance Certificate is designed to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge necessary to work in an area of finance. To earn the certificate students complete at least five of the courses listed below. Some courses are not offered in every semester. You will work with an advisor in the School of Business to create an individualized plan that will complete the certificate. Some courses also have prerequisites.

1. Bus 607 Corporate Finance (Fall, Spring)
Prerequisite: Certificate prerequisites complete or consent of the instructor

2. Bus 703 Intermediate Accounting I (Fall)
Prerequisite: Certificate prerequisites complete or consent of instructor.

3. Bus 704 Intermediate Accounting II (Spring)
Prerequisites: Bus 703.

4. Bus 711 Topics in Corporate Finance (Spring)
Prerequisite: Certificate prerequisites complete and Bus 607.

5. Bus 712 Investments (Spring)
Prerequisite: Certificate prerequisites complete and Bus 607.

6. Bus 713 International Finance (Fall)
Prerequisite: Certificate prerequisites complete and Bus 607.

7. Bus 772 Money and Banking (Fall - even years)

The following prerequisites are to be completed before, or soon after, beginning the certificate courses:

• Computer Skills: Computer proficiency to include basic systems operations, word processing, Excel spreadsheet and database applications.
• Finite Mathematics (or equivalent).
• Calculus (1 semester minimum).
• Introductory Statistics (including Simple Linear Regression)
• Business Law
• Financial Accounting
• Managerial Accounting
• Macro Economics
• Micro Economics

Students needing additional coursework to satisfy the certificate prerequisites may take the following Edgewood College courses (3 credits, unless otherwise indicated). Courses you have taken at other institutions may also meet these requirements. Your advisor will review your transcripts to identify which prerequisites you've met.

• CS 150: Introduction to Information Systems (Fall, Spring, Summer - 4 credits)
• BUS 500: Algebra Review (Spring, Summer) This course satisfies the Finite Math requirement.
• BUS 502: Business Calculus (Fall)
• BUS 503: Business Statistics (Fall, Summer)
• BUS 304: Law I (Fall, Spring, Summer) or BUS 504: Legal Environments (Fall, Spring)
• BUS 280: Financial Accounting (Fall, Spring)
• BUS 281: Managerial Accounting (Fall, Spring)
• BUS 505: Macro Economics (Early Fall, 2 credits)
• BUS 506: Micro Economics (Late Fall, 2 credits)
