Master of Arts in Education Degree Requirements

Each student must complete a minimum of 33 credits to receive the Master of Arts in Education degree.

The curriculum includes the following requirements:

  • Professional Education Core Requirements (15 credits)
  • Professional Development Concentration Requirements (18 credits)
  • Supervised field experience, as appropriate

Professional Education Core Requirements

(15 credits; 5 courses)
Provide advanced studies in instruction, curriculum planning, educational administration, and research.
  • ED 601 Fundamentals of Instruction
  • ED 602 Curriculum Planning
  • ED 603 Introduction to Educational Research
  • ED 692 Action Research Project

Plus one of the following:

  • ED 605C ESL/Bilingual Program Development OR
  • ED 618 Diversity/Culture/Literacy OR
  • ED 631 Supervision of Instruction

Professional Development Concentration Requirements

(18 credits; 5–7 courses)
  • Elective courses develop knowledge and skills in selected areas of specialization. Approval of Program Advisor is required.
