Professor Hallinan earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Illinois (UC), and completed both master's and doctorate degrees in economics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She began teaching at Edgewood College in 1999 and has taught Introduction to Business Statistics, Macroeconomics for Managers, Microeconomics for Managers, Statistics for Managers, Money and Banking, and International Economics. In 2009, she began advising students in the graduate programs (MBA, MSA, dual degrees), working with the faculty and the administration to establish policies for the new degrees, in addition to teaching part-time.

In the Business school, Pat has led the Assessment committee and received an Edgewood College award for best assessment report and an ACBSP (business school accrediting body) best practices award for the College's " Quality Assurance Report.” She has also worked on the graduate committee and in numerous search committees.

Pat's current research is in collaboration with others in the areas of eating disorders and addictive behaviors. Her role has been to advance the statistical analysis of data gathered from patients in programs for treatment of these disorders to see whether the respective programs make a difference and whether patient improvements persist after leaving their programs.

In 2009 Pat was selected by the MBA students as the Outstanding Faculty of the Year in recognition of her teaching excellence.
