Student Organizations

Student organizations provide opportunities for connections between students, faculty, and the wider community. From service and leadership to networking activities, student organizations help connect learning, beliefs, and action in The School of Business.

The Accounting Club, a student-led organization, expands the experiences of accounting majors outside the classroom. Events include speaker meetings, field trips to regional firms in both public and private practice, and networking events with professional organizations such as the WICPA and with local firms in a career fair format.

The Accounting Club also actively coordinates activities for the two Edgewood Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Sites in Madison and Stoughton. The VITA program is a partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, AARP, and Edgewood College that provides free tax preparation assistance to people with low incomes, individuals with disabilities, seniors, and non-English speaking taxpayers. Edgewood College students are proud to provide this community service to more than 500 Dane County families annually.

Last year, Edgewood student volunteers prepared 1,388 individual 2011 tax returns. These returns averaged $574 in refunds or $796,940 for 2011.  In the last three years, Edgewood volunteers prepared 4,600 tax returns that had refunds of approximately $2,640,400.  This was in addition to the $100 to $150 dollars saved by each taxpayer in return preparation fees at a commercial preparer.

Rotoract

The Rotaract Club, the junior organization of the Rotary Club for members between 18 and 30-years old, is a service organization for students in any major that emphasizes leadership, community involvement, and social and professional activities.

In addition to 4 – 5 club meetings per semester, members can attend a career workshop to polish resume writing, interview, and job search skills. Our members have raised nearly $10,000 for charities that help people in our community and around the world, and have done volunteer work that has touched the lives of many people in need.

Rotaract members also enjoy networking opportunities with Rotary Club members – top managers and executives – at Rotary meetings as well as in casual social settings. The Rotary Club of Madison, which sponsors the Edgewood Rotaract Club, is among the ten largest in the world.

Members receive a distinctive Rotaract Club lapel pin and t-shirt, free food at all Rotaract meetings, free attendance at Rotary luncheons and an array of social events, from parties, to comedy club outings, Brewers games, and more!

Rotaract has a business casual dress code. Membership dues are $30 per semester or $50 for the full year. For more information, please contact Professor Moses Altsech.

Net Impact

Net Impact is a global community of more than 30,000 changemakers who are using their jobs to tackle the world’s toughest problems. They put their business skills to work for good throughout every sector, showing the world that it’s possible to make a net impact that benefits not just the bottom line, but people and planet too. The mission of the Edgewood College Chapter is to inspire, educate, and equip individuals to use the power of business to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable world.

Our chapter is open to any Edgewood College student, as well as to business community members. Members learn about the latest in sustainability, corporate responsibility, and social entrepreneurship, and how business skills can be used towards a career for good. Together, members help lead change on campus, in the workplace, and in the community. Chapter activities include speaker events, film screenings, Earth Day celebrations, and more.
