As a business student at Edgewood College you will find that one of The School of Business's major strengths is a broad-based faculty who bring a wide variety of real-world experience to the classroom. This means you will receive a solid background in the skills required for the ever-changing world of business. While a technical background is important, employers also look for well-rounded employees who have a broad foundation in the liberal arts, wide general knowledge of the field, and the imagination to create and understand new ideas. If you major in accounting, you will explore the practical side of the field through events with accounting professionals, projects completed in accounting software programs and specialized accounting internships. You will also have the opportunity to take the 30 additional credits necessary to sit for the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) exam.
Because we know it's important for you to have hands-on experience, you will have the opportunity to do an internship in your area of concentration. You will be exposed to a number of functional areas and build project management and career development skills. Many of our students get their first jobs with the same firm where they interned. Business students have pursued careers in accounting, advertising, human resources, sales, financial planning, and many other fields. Through the internship experience, students have worked with TDS Metrocom, Oscar Mayer, American Family Insurance, Northwestern Mutual Life, Baker Tilly and Lands' End.
Students in the School of Business take advantage of the professional, community-based experiences in the student-led organizations of the Accounting Club, the Edgewood College-Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program sites, the Entrepreneurship Club and the Edgewood College Rotaract Chapter.
If you'd like to continue your business education after graduating, Edgewood offers a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Accountancy. Our graduate programs prepare students for careers in management and administration and to sit for the CPA exam.
