Communication Studies

Within the Communication Studies major, students have the opportunity to become specialists in their field by completing one of the following concentrations.

  • Interpersonal/Organizational - focuses on developing people skills, and prepares students for careers in management, sales, social services, event planning, marketing, human resources, or fundraising.
  • Message & Media - focuses on message design and production, and prepares students for careers in public relations, outreach, advertising, copywriting, editing, publishing, promotion, journalism, or broadcasting.
  • Social Influence -  develops skills in community leadership and public service, and prepares students for careers in politics, advocacy, law, or civic affairs.
  • Individualized Concentration - allows students to design a plan of study that fits their interests; previous individualized concentrations include Intercultural Communication, Health Communication, Public Relations, and Sports Marketing.
