The School of Nursing offers small classes that allow for engaging teaching styles and promote active student learning. The School of Nursing partners with over 25 community agencies in and around Dane county for clinical placements including UW Hospitals and Clinics, The American Family Children's Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital Medical Center and the Veteran's Administration Hospital. In addition to clinical placements, our students also utilize the state-of-the-art simulation lab at the Center for Nursing Excellence.

Students receive close direct clinical supervision by faculty in the School of Nursing and we are proud to maintain one of the lowest student/teacher ratios in the state at 7:1. Our five semester nursing curriculum includes exposure to the wide range of nursing roles and clinical experiences including maternal/child nursing, pediatrics, mental health and public health nursing in addition to acute care nursing.

The Center for Nursing Excellence

The Center for Nursing Excellence is an innovative training facility that offers life-like patient-simulation technology in a collaborative learning environment. This unique collaboration allows students to learn from educators and practitioners from Edgewood College, Meriter Health Services and St. Mary's Hospital.

The Center offers students the opportunity to learn from several computer-controlled mannequins including: an adult SimMan 3G, a high-fidelity child Pedia Sim, a high-fidelity birthing mother, a newborn baby SimNewB, and two low-fidelity mannequins. The Center also includes a mock nurses' station and the instructor's control room which has one-way glass portals and closed-circuit monitors for supervising and viewing the sessions led by clinical experts.
