The Season of Advent
As the days grow shorter and colder throughout December, Christians await the promised Light of the World, whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. For centuries, the Church has set aside the four weeks before Christmas as “Advent” time—a season of expectant waiting. For contemporary American culture, Advent’s reflective, hopeful mood can easily get overshadowed by the holiday season’s relentless details and events.
We hope you will find these reflections an oasis in the midst of the season’s activities; a source of grounding and inspiration as you prepare for Christmas. The book is a collection of reflections for Advent from contributors throughout the Edgewood College community. Their reflections are based on Scripture readings in the Common Christian lectionary. Because of space constraints, generally only a verse or two of the selected reading is printed in the booklet. We welcome your feedback; please email rrice@edgewood.edu. Thank you.
Blessings on your season,
Edgewood College Ministries and
