Isaiah 49:1-6. God called me from birth…You are my servant, God said to me, Israel, through whom I show my glory. Though I thought I had toiled in vain, and for nothing, uselessly, spent my strength, yet my reward is with God.
| There is comfort
in the conviction that there is a plan, that there are ends beyond our means,
toward which some hand leads us, making sense of all the suffering, redeeming all
the pain. And there is peace in accepting that there is no plan, that all such
structures are imposition and impudence, and all we enjoy is this moment. By means
of these attitudes and others, we humans attempt to make sense of our predicament,
to endure it, and to love it. Let us love, and let us laugh - Brandon Claycomb, Dean, School of Arts and Sciences |
