Second Sunday in Lent, March 8

Genesis 22:1-2, 9-13, 15-18. Abram put his faith in God, who credited it to him as an act of righteousness.

Throughout the challenging periods of our lives we ask ourselves, where is God? Where is God when I need God the most? Where is my sign that everything is going to be okay and that my deepest wishes and desires will be granted to me?

Perhaps, we have been getting God’s call and answer all along, but either refuse or blindly ignore it. It is time for us to give, not to receive.

In Genesis 22:1-2, Abraham is intending to sacrifice his son, Isaac, as God commanded of him. Suddenly a voice calls out to Abraham and Abraham answers, “Here I am.”

When was the last time we freely said to God, Here I am? Let me be a steward to you and to your world. Let me help others, let me make personal sacrifices for others and for you, as Abraham did.

Dear God, put me to work.
