Senior Reporter, Inside Higher Ed
Paul Fain currently serves as Senior Reporter with Inside Higher Ed, a position he’s held since September of 2011. Prior positions include assistant vice president in Widmeyer Communications’ higher education practice. Mr. Fain served as a senior reporter for The Chronicle of Higher Education from 2004 to 2011, writing about college leaders, finance and governance. His coverage included in-depth investigative articles, features, breaking news articles, analytical stories and multimedia reports such as audio interviews, podcasts and video reports.
Fain is regularly asked to speak at conferences and events, is widely cited in the news media, and has written for and been quoted by The New York Times. Fain has also appeared on National Public Radio and Fox Business Network. Before joining The Chronicle, Fain wrote for C-VILLE Weekly, a newspaper in Charlottesville, Va. He covered everything from schools and crime to business and county government. He has also written for the Philadelphia City Paper, Washington City Paper and Mother Jones. His writing has won numerous awards, including the 2008 Dick Schaap Excellence in Sports Journalism Award and a 2006 second-place prize for beat reporting from the Education Writers Association.
