Edgewood College has always sought to be a center for the arts for our students and the Madison community. Many of our graduates stay in the Madison area, contributing to the local arts scene as enthusiastic participants and as engaged audience members. Our neighbors and guests share in our gallery openings and theatrical performances, our workshops and musical ensembles. The College’s Dominican Mission enjoins us to contribute to the community where it is, partnering to meet our shared needs and fulfill our shared aspirations, and the fine arts are a prominent means by which we carry out this Mission.
The Stream, our new visual and theatre arts center, expands our ability to develop our students and enrich the Madison community artistically. The Fall 2012 opening has made many long-cherished dreams come true. Dedicated arts facilities allow top-quality programs to reach their fullest potential, and this year marks the beginning of a period of unprecedented opportunity for our Art and Theatre Arts departments to innovate, inspire, and connect with Madison and the world. Our Edgewood College Gallery will showcase world-class exhibits of traditional and contemporary media from Outsider and mainstream artists from around the country. Our theatrical season will include presentations by world famous playwrights, stars from the improv stage and sketch television, and partners from the American Players Theatre. The departments share their mission and vision with the College’s Music department, which continues its long tradition of providing exceptional programming for its students and the community. The dream of a top-quality space for Music remains. This year our concert series continues to contribute to the vibrant Madison-area music scene by featuring more than twenty diverse performances, ranging from a collaborative faculty performance of the works of John Cage to numerous student ensemble performances.
