CPAELL is a unique online professional development program offered by The Wisconsin Alliance for Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (WISACALD) at Edgewood College. Until now, most professional development opportunities or academic courses were targeted to teachers of K-12 education. Connecting Practitioners of Adult English Language Learners is designed to give teachers and tutors of adult ELLs in Wisconsin access to professional development and graduate coursework in the broad scope of instructional, linguistic, and social issues faced by their ELL students. The program consists of two graduate level courses offered to practitioners in adult education who wish to develop better skills and strategies for creating successful learning environments for their students learning English.
- Unique cohort-based, online delivery method with one initial kick-off meeting held on the Edgewood College campus in Madison during the month of June.
- Reduced tuition rates are available through a federal five-year grant award from the Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA) awarded to Edgewood College.
- Coursework can be applied to meet requirements in the Master of Arts in Education: TESOL (non-licensing) concentration or a Master of Arts in Education: Professional Studies.
- The six-credit series may also apply toward license renewal in the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS).
