Teaching English Language Learners: ESL Minor Requirements
License: This minor is designed to prepare students for licensing to teach English language learners and is attached to a licensing program such as Early Childhood: Special and Regular Education or Middle-Childhood Through Adolescence: Regular Education. For other combinations, consult a School of Education advisor.
- Twenty-four credits, as follows:
- ED 260 Study of Language and Linguistics
- ED 261 Second Language Acquisition
- ED 262 Principles of Bilingual/Bicultural Education
- ED 432 Content Based Literacy Development
- ED 450 ESL Methods
- ED 451 ESL/Bilingual Assessment
- ED 472 ESL Practicum
Three additional credits in approved electives to support the minor.
- English Language Proficiency: "C" or better grades in ENG 110 and COMMS 101, or approved equivalency.
- Target Language Proficiency: "C" or better grades in one year of a language at the college level or two years of a language in high school, or approved equivalency.
