Information about Luke House

What is Luke House? A meal program which provides meals 9 times/week (5 dinners, 4 lunches) to Madison's low-income population.

Who is Luke House? About 40 faith communities in Madison each take responsibility for one meal per month. Edgewood is the only group involved which is not a Church. Our meal is the second Sunday dinner every month. The program also has one full-time coordinator, Paul Ashe.

Where is Luke House? The dinners are served at 310 S. Ingersoll on the Isthmus (just off Williamson St. about 2 blocks from the Willy St. Coop).

What do we do? Edgewood faculty, students, and staff provide the food, prepare the meal, serve the meal, share the meal, and clean the facility afterwards. It's a lot of fun and the food is great.

How much time does it take? We try to arrive at Luke House around 4:45 and are usually done by 7:00.

What do we eat? Edgewood's meal is a yummy spaghetti dinner with salad and bread.

How many people do we need? To serve the meal comfortably we need about 20 volunteers on the night of the meal. Many who can't serve help by donating food. Currently we only have about 10 people who are committed to volunteering regularly so we need additional people every month. If you've served a couple times and like it, why not consider making a regular commitment?

How do I help? When the sign-up sheet goes up just sign up for a serving or food donation slot or better yet both. If you're bringing food, bring it to Phil's shortly before 4:30 the day of the meal. If you're serving then you can meet us in the Regina parking lot around 4:30 to share a ride or just meet us at Luke House.

Can I bring my kids? Yes! Several families with children help out each month. Older kids can help out with the meal; younger kids can play in the break room.
