Ethnic Studies Award Application
New Spring 2010 Students Only

The Ethnic Studies Award is for students who plan to minor in Ethnic Studies and have an interest in learning about historically marginalized ethnic and racial groups in the United States. These groups include, but are not limited to, African Americans, Asian Americans, Latino/a Americans, Native Americans, and multiracial Americans. Write a 250-500 word essay in which you address the following two questions:

(Recommendation: Copy and paste your completed essay into the text box)

  • Question 1: Why is it important to learn about the experiences and cultures of diverse peoples?
  • Question 2: In what ways will an ethnic studies minor help to advance your personal and academic goals?

The application essays will be evaluated according to their thoughtfulness as well as effort.

To renew the award for each academic year, a recipient must maintain the status of an Ethnic Studies minor and take at least one course in Ethnic Studies per academic year.
