Marcia Morales is a senior, majoring in Sociology with a minor in French. An outstanding student and global citizen, she makes a positive wherever she goes.

In 2012, she’s been named to the “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities” list, and was honored with the Dominican Justice Award from the College, which recognizes a strong commitment to justice, both on campus and in the community.

Marcia’s work includes service as Vice President of the Cultural Studies Club, participating in French Circle and ALAS (Association of Latino(a) Students), and volunteering at the Madison AIDS Network in outreach and prevention programs, like the “ACT Ride 7” and “Red Ribbon Affair.” Marcia has volunteered at the Latino Youth College Fair, at Kromrey Middle School in Middleton, and at several other social service agencies in Greater Madison. In the summer of 2010, she was accepted to the Institute of Philanthropy and Volunteer Services at Georgetown University, where she interned at Beacon House, a non-profit organization for at risk youth.

Most recently she has been volunteering at DAIS (Domestic Abuse Intervention Services), and at Centro Hispano in Madison, where she helped in a children’s day care program while the parents were receiving services there.

Service for others has been central to Marcia’s life since her high school days in Madison. “I did community service by volunteering at the food pantry as their only bilingual translator and helped the Latino families with their language barrier,” she said. “After high school I was awarded the Community Scholars Award  for my service to community, which has helped me enormously as it has provided me the opportunity to get a great education while serving the community. I am so thankful for all the blessings I have received throughout the years and I feel that without my involvement in the community this wouldn’t have been possible.”
