“The Philosophy of Martin Luther King”
Vince
Kavaloski, chair of philosophy department, and guest speakers
Martin Luther King is generally remembered as a
great civil rights leader. But his philosophy went far beyond this.
It stressed the sacred dignity of all human beings; criticized the
“evil triplets” of racism, militarism, and materialism; and aimed at
the global vision of the Beloved Community or World House, embodying
the universal principles of nonviolence, interrelatedness, and human
rights.
How can these powerful principles be not only
carried on today but also applied to new contexts and challenges?
How can they guide and inspire us in our 21st century
struggles?
