For those who already know Ireland as a magical place, and those who hope to find out why, Monahan’s stories will delight. Monaghan’s love for this land gives hope that all people will live in gratitude for the gifts of the earth. She makes Celtic myths, goddesses, fairies, and wisdom come alive. Monahan teaches at DePaul University and is the winner of the 1992 Friends of Literature award.

Monaghan is a guest of the Edgewood College English and Women’s Studies departments, and of the Human Issues seminar, “Earth Mother, Birth Mother: Women and Ireland.” Students in this seminar are researching Celtic wisdom and other topics to prepare for study in Ireland next May, where they will meet Irish midwives and visit ecological centers and Celtic and Christian sacred sites. They are also preparing for service learning projects in the Madison area, responding to environmental needs and the needs of pregnant and birthing women.
