Kelly-Powell named Edgewood College
academic vice president
Madison, Wis. (May 11, 2005) – Edgewood College today
announced the appointment of Professor Mary Kelly-Powell,
the chair of the nursing department, to be interim vice
president of academic affairs, effective June 27.
Announcing Kelly-Powell’s appointment, Edgewood College
President Daniel J. Carey said, “In our national search for
an academic vice president, we maintained a high standard of
expectation. Although our search for an outside candidate
did not bring us the results we require, I now have
excellent news to share with the campus community. After
consulting with each member of the search committee, the
administrative team, as well as members of the faculty, who
all supported this appointment unanimously, I have asked
Mary Kelly-Powell to serve as our interim vice president for
academic affairs. I am delighted that she has agreed.”
Accepting the appointment, Kelly-Powell said, “I am
honored to serve the students, faculty and staff of Edgewood
College in this leadership role. Exciting academic changes
are underway. The faculty is restructuring the way we
organize our academic departments. We are changing our
general educational requirements. We are exploring different
ways to serve students through our new Deming Way campus. In
short, we are charting a new academic path for the college.
I am looking forward to working with my colleagues to give
Edgewood College students the best possible education for
their careers and for service to their communities.”
Mary Kelly-Powell joined the Edgewood College nursing
department in 1996, was appointed interim chair of the
department in 1999 and was elected chair in 2000. She taught
at Alverno College in Milwaukee and at UW-Oshkosh, after 18
years in nursing practice. She received her Ph.D. in nursing
from the UW-Milwaukee, her M.S. in nursing from the
University of Colorado and her B.S. in nursing from the
College of St. Teresa, Winona, Minn.
