Madison, Wis. (April 11, 2008) – Edgewood College today announced that
Dominican Hall, the newest residence hall on campus, has been awarded LEED®
Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED, or
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the USGBC’s rating system
for designing and constructing the world’s greenest, most energy efficient,
and high performing buildings. The hall was opened for the first time in August
of 2007, and is home to nearly 200 students.
“We are thrilled by this honor. It really is an affirmation of what we
as a community have committed to – environmental stewardship of this beautiful
campus,” Edgewood College President Dan Carey said. “The construction of this
project was a team effort from the very beginning, and our partners at Potter
Lawson and at Findorff share our resolve to lead the way in reducing environmental
impact,” Carey said.
Potter Lawson, Inc., a Madison-based architecture firm, was the designer of
Dominican Hall. J.H. Findorff & Son, Inc., built the new hall. Both firms have
received numerous awards for sustainability in design and construction,
including awards for projects previously completed on the Edgewood College
campus. Dominican Hall is the first college or university residence hall in
the state of Wisconsin to be LEED certified by the USGBC.
MEDIA ADVISORY: The College will celebrate this achievement to kick-off
its Earth Week celebration. Officials with USGBC, Potter Lawson, J.H. Findorff
& Son, Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, and students, faculty and staff at Edgewood
College will enjoy a brief ceremony and celebration at 3:00pm Monday, April 21,
2008 in the courtyard of Dominican Hall.
