Talent Scholarships

$1000-$3000 awards are available for talented freshman and transfer students who have a strong interest in art, writing, foreign language, music, or theatre.

Application Instructions

Aspiring Writer Scholarship - Awarded to students based on a review of their original written works of fiction, poetry, or journalism.

    • Recipients of this scholarship must:
      • Enroll in at least one English class each semester during your first two years.
      • Submit at least three pieces of original written work to Edgewood Review (campus literary magazine) or On the Edge (campus newspaper), or some combination of the two publications, during each of your first two years
      • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

Fine Arts Scholarship in Art - Awarded to students based on a portfolio review of original work which may include drawing, color, design, painting, photography, fibers, sculpture, ceramics, metalsmithing, printmaking, video, and computer graphics.

  • Recipients of this scholarship must:
    • Participate in one art studio, art history, graphic design, or art therapy course per academic year.
    • Declare a major in art, art teaching, graphic design, or art therapy by the sophomore year.
    • Maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0.
    • Participate in the spring student art show each year.

Fine Arts Scholarship in Music - Awarded to students based on an audition in one of the following areas:  voice, woodwind, brass, percussion, piano, orchestral strings, or classical guitar.

  • Recipients of this scholarship must:
    • Participate in one major ensemble (band, choir, or orchestra) each semester per academic year.  (Ensemble choice will be the one you audition for in conjunction with the award.)
    • Maintain a minimum music course grade point average of 3.0

Fine Arts Scholarship in Theatre - Awarded to students based on a theater audition or technical theatre portfolio review

  • Recipients of this scholarship must:
    • Maintain active membership in the student organization Theatre Assembly.
    • Participate in a least one production per year either as an actor or as a crew person.
    • Take either Acting I or Stagecraft I during your freshmen year
    • Maintain a minimum theatre course grade point average of 3.0.

World Language Scholarship in Spanish - Awarded to student who can demonstrate proficiency in Spanish.

World Language Scholarship in French - Awarded to student who can demonstrate proficiency in French.

  • Recipients of these scholarships must:
    • Enroll in at least one Spanish or French class each semester per academic year, and declare a Spanish or French major or minor by the end of the sophomore year
    • Be in good academic standing college-wide and have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 in Spanish or French.

Step 1:  Complete the Talent Scholarship Application (available 12/15/14) for each talent scholarship separately (if applying for more than one).

Step 2:  Contact the appropriate faculty member to schedule an audition/portfolio review.  See available dates below.

     Audition/Portfolio Review Deadlines:

  • Priority Deadline:  March 26- to be considered for the highest level scholarship (limited number of $3,000 scholarships available)
  • Final Deadline:  April 16- for all auditions/portfolio reviews

Step 3:  Prepare for your audition/portfolio review by following the preparation instructions.

Step 4:  (Music and Art ONLY) Ask your music or art teacher if they would complete a recommendation form.  Print the Edgewood Talent Scholarship Recommendation Instructions, complete the “student” section, and give the instructions to your teacher.

Step 5:  Attend your audition/portfolio review
