Short Personal Bio: My name is Lisa and I am from Saukville, Wisconsin, a small town just north of Milwaukee. I am the youngest of six children, and I am the second to attend college. Growing up I was always very interested in art and writing. When I came to Edgewood College, after being referred to it by my aunt, a Dominican sister, I discovered the communications program which provided me with a great combination of both writing and the graphic arts. With the knowledge I gain at Edgewood College I hope to work in the advertising field.
What do you love about being a student at Edgewood College
I like being a student at Edgewood because I am able to form relationships with my professors. They really help me in the classroom and mentor me outside.
Why do you love living in Madison (favorite thing to do)
My favorite thing about living in Madison is the city atmosphere. There is so much to do. On Saturdays I love to go to the farmers market and check out the produce and bakery. It’s the perfect way to spend a morning.
Favorite residence hall…why
I like Regina Hall. I lived there my freshman year and I really enjoyed it. I was able to have my privacy, but I still made a lot of friends and met my current roommate, and fellow ambassador Allie LaGuardia.
Favorite part of tour
My favorite parts of the tour are when we’re outside. I think that Edgewood has such a beautiful campus, and I like to show it off.
Favorite class…why
I have taken a lot of great classes here, and I don’t know if I can decide on one. My freshman year I took a class specifically focused on climate change which I really enjoyed. The class tackled a really relevant topic and explored it in depth. I feel like a have a very good understanding of one of the world’s most pressing issues after taking the class. I also enjoyed taking a philosophy course on human rights. I enjoyed the course, but with the professor’s help I was able to start an Amnesty International (a global human rights organization) chapter here on campus as a result of the course.
How has Edgewood College prepared you for the “real world”
As a liberal arts college, Edgewood requires everyone to take a variety of classes. By having a broad knowledge of numerous subjects I think that Edgewood is preparing me for life outside of college. In the “real world” I know that I am going to need to know about more than just my field of study, and by having a liberal arts curriculum I feel prepared to face future employers and the world.
Advice you would give a prospective student during their college search, based on your experience
Picking a school can be really difficult, and I would recommend just listening to what you think is right. There are lots of different schools for all sorts of people. I think the key is figuring out who you are and finding the school that really fits your personality and goals.
