Edgewood College Judicial Affairs

Purpose of the Edgewood College Judicial Affairs
Program
To uphold the standards of our community as outlined in our Student Code
of Conduct and College Policies.
The Edgewood College Judicial Affairs Program conducts
judicial processes that:
- Take an educational approach to student misconduct that promote
learning and insight while balancing community safety
- Promote and uphold the Dominican Values of community,
partnership, justice, truth and compassion.
- Are fair and promote individual responsibility, civility and
accountability
- Promote ethical dialogue and critical thinking
Guiding Principles of the Judicial Process
The Judicial Affairs Program will use the following principles:
- The standard of evidence used in judicial cases is “more likely
than not”
- Outcomes of cases will not be decided until all evidence is
gathered
- Sanctions will be based on evidence presented at the hearing,
individual circumstance, the severity of the violation, and the
judicial history of the individual
- Confidentiality-All information presented in the course
of conduct hearings and deliberations are strictly confidential
- Impartiality-All Judicial Board members are expected to
adhere to high standards of impartiality. Knowing a student (as a
classmate or having them in a class) is not reason to excuse a
member from a hearing. Having a stake in the outcome of a hearing is
a clear reason to not participate (e.g., a coach, a supervisor
etc.). Personal interest in/knowledge of a case may be reason not to
serve on the Judicial Board. Judicial Board members should notify
the hearing officer of anyone attempting to influence their
decision.
Student Judicial Learning Outcomes

values grounded in the five Dominican values
