Student Development
The Student Development staff of Edgewood College educates and supports
students in the realization of their academic, social, spiritual and
personal potential.
In partnership with faculty, staff and students, the Student Development
staff takes as its primary responsibility the development of
out-of-class learning experiences which promote active involvements in
lifelong learning, the development of civic courage, a commitment to
service, and critical reflection and action on power and privilege.

The Dean of Students provides leadership and supervision for
Student Development services and programs. The Dean of Students
works with students to ensure that services and programs are
responsive to students needs and to resolve students' non-academic
concerns and grievances. The Dean of Students serves as a
liaison for students to the administration on all matters concerning

The office of Student Activities assists student sand student
organizations in the coordination of campus-wide activities, events
and celebrations in an effort to build a stronger campus community and
to promote interaction among students, faculty and staff. These
opportunities prepare you for success in your career as well as your
academic, personal, social, and spiritual lives.

As a college committed to developing the whole person, Edgewood is
proud of its Dominican heritage. College Ministries at Edgewood
takes an ecumenical approach to developing personal spirituality.
You may choose to participate in worship services, to volunteer your services in
programs, or Alternative Break trips that help the community or to discover ways to deepen your
inner strengths and faiths through participation in Faith Builders or other
student-centered events and discussion groups.
St. Joseph Chapel is located at the heart of the Edgewood College
campus. The chapel serves as an area for personal reflection, worship services, and
college community gatherings for a variety of experiences.

from the US Department of Justice, this project is positive and
proactive with its overall goal to promote healthy relationships and
safety for all students so they may achieve academically and socially.
The project is a collaborative effort between faculty, staff, students
and community agencies. The specific working components of the grant
include:

for campus personnel (faculty/staff/students)
- National consultants
for campus-wide training and awareness
- Comprehensive
evaluation of prevention efforts
Peer
Education Program
The Peer Education
Program emphasizes student leadership and positive role modeling.
Edgewood College's Peer Educators will present interactive sessions
that promote healthy relationships and focus on examining and
challenging common myths and stereotypes that support unhealthy
behaviors and relationship violence, including sexual assault,
domestic violence and stalking. The goal of the program will be to
help challenge cultural norms, to help men and women communicate and
understand each other better and, ultimately, to promote healthy
relationships. Program topics include:
- Healthy relationships
- Male and female
socialization
- Dating violence
- Sexuality, consent and
the law
- How to help a friend
who is the victim of violence
Consultation
Consultation and/or
training can occur by request. These may take place in a classroom,
with an individual department of the college or with an individual
student, and can be tailored to fit the needs of the situation.

Services of the Career and Counseling Center are available to all
students, faculty and staff of Edgewood College.
Career Development Services include aptitude testing and individual
career counseling, job vacant bulletins, resume writing assistance, an
information center with current resource materials, and job search
information from the Internet. To Schedule an appointment for
individual career assistance, see the Administrative Assistant at
DeRicci 206 or call (608) 663-2281. Evening and weekend degree
sessions are available by appointment.
Personal counseling services help foster self-direction and assist
students in dealing with issues that may interfere with their personal
development and academic success. Individual counseling services
are free and confidential; various support groups and health
promotion programs are also offered periodically. Assessment,
short-term counseling and referral services are offered for alcohol
and drug abuse. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to
contact the Counseling Services for consultation, referral to
community resources or for assistance with programs.

The Center for Diversity focuses on the special needs of an
ethnically-diverse student population, and acts as a campus-wide
catalyst to promote the celebration of diversity. The Center
offers faculty, staff and students as representatives of various
ethnicities, an opportunity to be linked with one another in healthy
and synergistic ways. The Director of the Center gives special
attention to students of color on campus, personally assisting with
skill-building tutorials and culturally diverse activities. Any
member of the Edgewood Community is welcome to stop by the Center and
participate in discussions and programs.

The Edgewood College Health Service is staffed by a certified nurse
practitioner. The major goal of Health Services is to encourage
a program of health promotion and disease prevention. Health
Services provide health assessments, care for acute illness and
injuries, immunizations, health counseling, educational programming
and referrals as necessary. Prescription medication may be
prescribed if it is clinically indicated. Students are welcome
to use Health Services as an informational resource in completing
classroom assignments.
The Health Service requires every student to have a health history
form on file at the beginning of the semester. Students are
required to have documentation of two does of a live measles vaccine
given after the first birthday or evidence of measles immunity.
Hepatitis B vaccine is strongly recommended. A Tetanus Toxoid
booster is also recommended within the past ten years.
Additional Services Available in the Health Center
A registered dietician provides nutrition counseling services for
students, faculty and staff. Services may include: counseling
for weight management, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, eating
disorders, and other nutrient related concerns. Nutrition
related workshops and classes are also available. Call the
Health Center for additional information or to schedule an
appointment.

The primary purposes of the Residence Life program at Edgewood
College include: providing a comfortable living environment, fostering
academic achievement, and creating opportunities for individual
residents to achieve their social, spiritual and personal potential.
In order to accomplish these goals, the residence hall program
provides out-of-class learning experiences which promote student
involvement in directing their own learning processes, the development
of leadership and communication skills, and appreciation of diversity,
and a commitment to service. At Edgewood, particular emphasis is
placed on providing appropriate support to make your transition to
college life as smooth as possible.

The Security Staff is responsible for the safety and security of
campus buildings and grounds. Security Officers patrol the campus,
monitor parking, provide escort service when requested, and act as
liaisons with local police and fire agencies. To report a
