Marshall Hall
 

The oldest building on campus, Marshall Hall was added to the estate as a fieldstone carriage house and barn in 1864 by Samuel Marshall, one of the founders of M&I Bank. Marshall eventually sold his Edgewood Villa and lakeside estate to Wisconsin Governor Cadwallader C. Washburn, who used it as his official residence. Washburn donated the entire estate to the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters in 1881, and the original mansion served as a boarding school, followed by a succession of buildings as the campus population and educational mission grew.

Over the years, Marshall Hall served as barn, living quarters for the school's hired farmhands, storage, a laundry house, and, beginning in 1942, as a residence hall for the women attending the 4-year college which had recently been established. It became a men's residence when Edgewood College went co-ed in 1970, but currently houses both men and women.
