Sayeeda is an Associate Professor of French in the Department of Foreign Languages. She specializes in nineteenth-century French literature and culture and received her Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1996. Sayeeda was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and moved to Belgium with her family when she was nine. She studied at the Lycée Français while in Brussels, and attended Woodstock--a 155 year-old international boarding school in the Himalayas prior to coming to the United States as a college freshman. Sayeeda speaks several languages, has travelled extensively around the world, and has published and presented research at universities in Brazil, Canada, England, France, Spain and the United States.
“I teach all levels of French Language, Literature, Culture, and Civilization courses as well as Francophone Literature and Culture. I have occasionally taught Global Feminism. If you take French at Edgewood College, chances are you will be taking a class with me! I mentor the Edgewood College French Club--le Cercle Français. I coordinate the Women's History Month Film series "Women in Film: Global Feminism." I supervise student research in French & Francophone Literature and Culture and have accompanied French students to national conferences such as NCUR where they have presented their research and scholarship to peers across the nation.”
