Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Affairs
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Business, the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Affairs is responsible for working with faculty, staff, and students to ensure excellence in all undergraduate affairs in the School of Business at Edgewood College. The job responsibilities include the following:
Student Services and Administrative Work
- Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the required curriculum for all undergraduate programs in the School of Business.
- Work with the Undergraduate Student Advisor and Internship Director in the School of Business to ensure excellence in student advisement, graduation planning, and job placement for all undergraduate business majors.
- Address undergraduate student issues (i.e., academic and behavioral) and complaints with the appropriate faculty, staff, and/or administrators at Edgewood College and within the School of Business.
- Maintain records of individual student meetings in accordance with FERPA, which include student issues and concerns as well as follow-up communications and resolutions.
- Assist in admissions, orientation, graduation, and other college-related and school-related events that pertain to undergraduate business students.
- Collaborate with the Center for Global Education and the School of Business faculty, staff, and administrators to maintain and grow current (and offer potentially new) Study Abroad program opportunities for undergraduate business majors and minors with various partners and affiliated foreign universities.
- Evaluate course substitutions and transfer credit reports for undergraduate business majors and minors with the Undergraduate Student Advisor and Internship Director.
- Work with School of Business faculty and staff to create timetables and submit timetable change forms to change set up and schedule of courses for upcoming semesters, terms, and/or sessions.
Accreditation and Assessment
- Work closely with School of Business Dean, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs, department chairs, and faculty/staff in assessing, analyzing, reporting, improving, and monitoring the performance quality of all undergraduate business programs and curricula with regards to student learning to meet and exceed the requirements of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
- Work closely with the Graduate Student Advisor and Assessment Coordinator in the School of Business on ensuring timely and proper submission of all required reports to the appropriate accreditation agencies as they relate to undergraduate business programs and curricula.
- Meet with School of Business department chairs and faculty to discuss outcomes assessment, including evaluation of course syllabi and student learning objectives/outcomes, at the program and curricula levels.
- Attend annual ACBSP Accreditation conference, and report to the School of Business faculty on outcomes assessment and other pertinent accreditation information learned at the conference.
- Maintain records of all assessment reports for School of Business’ undergraduate programs and curricula.
Strategic Initiatives and Other Assignments:
- Assist the Dean in developing, administering, assessing, improving, and monitoring strategic initiatives designed to increase the enrollment, retention, graduation, career placement, and satisfaction of undergraduate majors and minors in the School of Business.
- Work with the School of Business Dean and Office of Marketing and Strategic Communications on developing and implementing an effective integrated marketing communications (IMC) strategy to target prospective business students through social media, print advertisements, brochures, Internet, and other communication mediums.
- Participate on service committees at the College and School levels as assigned by the School of Business Dean.
- Teach undergraduate, Returning Adult Accelerated Degree (RAAD), and/or graduate business courses each calendar year as assigned by and at the discretion of the School of Business Dean as needed.
- Assist the School of Business Dean with student recruitment fairs and events, in conjunction with the Office of Enrollment Management, and community engagement events in the greater Madison area.
- Provide leadership and assistance in semester course scheduling for undergraduate School of Business courses throughout the academic year.
- Perform other duties assigned by the School of Business Dean as needed.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- A master’s degree in business or business related area (preferably from an AACSB accredited business school) and previous teaching experience at an institution of higher education are required.
- Previous experience with ACBSP Accreditation is highly preferred.
- A doctoral degree from an AACSB accredited business school and previous administrative experience (i.e., department chair, etc.) in higher education are preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in research, data analysis, and reporting.
- Excellent writing, communication, and Microsoft Office skills. Knowledge of SharePoint and BlackBoard are pluses.
- Ability to multitask, exercise independent judgment, and work effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
- Must have the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Exhibits professionalism, integrity, and ethics at all times.
- Willingness to travel periodically to promote the School of Business to prospective students and to the Greater Madison community.
