Center for Multicultural Education and Ethnic Studies Program Coordinator

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:   

Edgewood College is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Program Coordinator for the Center for Multicultural Education and Ethnic Studies Program. Working closely with the leadership of these two programs, the Program Coordinator provides coordination and support to the Center for Multicultural Education and Ethnic Studies in fundamental areas such as office management, faculty development and educational programming support, promotion and marketing, and contribution to the growth and enrollment health of Ethnic Studies.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to the Director for Multicultural Education
  • Supervises the Center’s student workers

Responsibilities:

  • Create a welcoming environment in the CME office for all faculty, staff, and students across campus
  • Serve as the first point of contact for people who need information or assistance related to the Center for Multicultural Education
  • Support faculty development and programming sponsored by the Center
  • Coordinate office processes and procedures to ensure the smooth functioning of the Center.
  • Hire, supervise, train and schedule student workers
  • Organize and maintain program records, including the shared drive, SharePoint, and website
  • Collaborate with campus library partners to develop and maintain the CME collection of electronic, print, and audio-visual media resources

Programming Support

  • Provide support for educational programming and events including their planning, running, promoting, and evaluating
  • Assist with the programming and coordination of faculty development and new faculty orientations on multicultural teaching and learning (e.g. literature reviews, data needs, evaluations, technology innovations or support)
  • Foster relationships and support CME activities with multicultural student organizations across campus

Promotion and Marketing

  • Generate ideas for and assist with the production of stories about the work of the Center for Multicultural Education
  • Promote multicultural events on campus and in the greater Madison community
  • Maintain website, wall displays, bulletin boards, brochures and other materials needed to promote programs, events, news, and accomplishments

Ethnic Studies Academic Program Support

  • Serve as the first-point-of-contact for Ethnic Studies major/minor inquiries
  • Assist with Ethnic Studies major/minor recruitment and outreach events and activities, including class presentations, information sessions, and Freshmen Intended Majors/Minors Outreach

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Education or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree relevant to multicultural education and/or Ethnic Studies
  • One to three years of work experience related to the job responsibilities
  • Work experience in a higher education setting

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • High motivation, initiative, and strong sense of responsibility
  • Attention to detail
  • Basic office skills (word processing, data entry, file management, use of office equipment)
  • Management skills (organizing, delegating, problem-solving, negotiating)
  • Flexibility
  • Multicultural competence and ability to work with individuals from diverse racial and ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with a variety of individuals and offices across campus; ability to supervise student workers
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as part of a team
  • Excellent time management (planning, prioritizing, and multitasking) and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and knowledge of SharePoint a plus
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with basic copier/printer functions
