Healthcare Simulation Specialist – Lab Coordinator (LTE Entry Level)

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Healthcare Simulation Specialist – Lab Coordinator (LTE Entry Level) reports to the Executive Director and works under the direction of the Healthcare Simulation Manager and Healthcare Simulation Specialist to perform operational and technical planning and delivery of healthcare education and simulation activities. This is a 12-month position. Specifically, the person will; collaborate with simulation staff to develop education and simulation curricular materials, supplies and equipment to support learning activities; operate both administrative and technical tasks to effectively deliver simulation sessions to internal and external clients; sell, promote and grow the lab to internal clients and external regional clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Daily Operation of the Simulation Lab
    • Orient new students and faculty to the simulation classrooms, labs and mannequins
    • Perform clerical functions related to lab management
    • Maintain a professional and safe environment
  • Maintain Human Simulators and Lab Equipment
    • Ensure lab simulation technology and equipment is kept secure and safe
    • Maintain an understanding and utilize as appropriate the vendor contract and equipment warranties
  • Manage Simulation Lab Supplies
    • Assess simulation lab supply needs
    • Develop and maintain a database for inventory of supplies and procedures to prompt reordering
    • Organize storage of supplies
    • Order simulation supplies per procedure
    • Track usage of supply inventory, maintain inventory
    • Manage hazardous materials per established standards
  • Perform Pre-Simulation Activities
    • Assemble pre-simulation learning materials
    • Prepare scenario props
    • Create scenarios moulage
    • Assist in creating documentation for scenarios
    • Obtain signed release/ confidentiality forms from participants
    • Setup control room for simulation activity
  • Execute Simulation Experience
    • Pre-brief students, staff and faculty
    • Serve as a simulation operator by running simulation technology with instructors
    • Manipulate simulator during scenario
    • Record simulation activities, operating audio and video equipment to record simulation sessions with subsequent editing and transfer to archival format
    • Assist directing the activities in the scenario
    • Assist faculty in monitoring students’ safety
    • Perform troubleshooting
    • Provide voice-over for mannequin and other theatrical support
  • Support all other healthcare education activities at CHES
    • Contribute to planning and coordinating activities to support learning objectives for all groups utilizing CHES (e.g. CNA class, career camps, skills labs)
    • Set up and take down space with appropriate equipment and supplies to support learning objectives for scheduled activities
  • Perform Post Simulation Activities
    • Operate audio and video equipment for debriefing
    • Provide technical evaluation of simulation experience
    • Administer student evaluations of simulation lab experience
    • Provide technical recommendations for simulation improvement
    • Manage student simulation recordings
  • Collaborate with Faculty and Staff
    • Support lab clients in preparing for, facilitation and debriefing of simulation to optimize the learning experience
    • Keep faculty updated on lab schedules and down-time for maintenance and advice faculty of equipment failures and alternatives
  • Maintain Simulation Lab Documentation
    • Develop, maintain and enforce documented lab policies and procedures
    • Develop and maintain related forms such as Confidentiality or Release Forms
    • Produce simulation orientation materials
    • Manage digital media
    • Assist in supporting the CHES website
  • Promote Marketing and Growth of the Simulation Lab
    • Promote simulation integration into courses
    • Conduct tours of the simulation lab
  • Maintain Professional Development
    • Continuously seek and apply information on best simulation practices
    • Research future simulation products

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Education or Work Experience:

  • Requires minimum of a BS degree in Nursing and will obtain RN license within 6 months of employment.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Broad understanding of computer technology and electronics
  • Proficiency in MS software applications including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet, and database use
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple items simultaneously
  • Work well under pressure
  • Self- motivated and require little to no supervision with the ability to work independently
  • Exemplary professionalism, commitment and loyalty
