When we think of Computer Scientists, most often people think that they are men. However, what is not well known is that a vast number of computer related, scientific inventions were created by WOMEN!
In support of Women’s History month and to awareness for women in computer science history, CIS students, in collaboration with Edgewood EmPowered the CIS student organization, is sponsoring a ‘You! As A Woman Computer Scientist’ event, running from March 21st to March 27th, 2018.
This action-oriented event asks participants to increase their awareness of the contributions of Women Computer Scientists in a fun way. Here’s what you do: First select and learn more about an important female contributor to Computer Science. (We will have some suggestions for you, but you are welcome to find one of your own). Then, create your own profile picture representing the female contributor and take a photo of yourself. Write up a 140 character mini description of that person. Submit the photo and your description to the Instagram account to be entered into a contest for 'Best Profile of a Woman Computer Scientist'. Prizes will be awarded at a special student meeting on March 28th, at 6:00 p.m.
Be sure to tag @Edgewood_Empowered and submit all photos by March 27th at 2:00 pm.
