FAQ:

How can I Mask Up, Back Up, and Wash Up effectively on campus? Wear your mask! Masks should cover your nose and mouth and should be worn indoors in public spaces and outdoors when you can not effectively be physically distant from others. If you do not own a mask, you may purchase one in the Campus Store. Back Up: practice physical distancing by leaving 6 feet between you and others. Wash up: wash your hands often.

What should I do if I was exposed to someone with COVID-19? Report any potential exposure or symptoms to the Dean of Students Office and follow any instructions they provide to seek medical care or to quarantine.

What should I do if I see another student who isn't wearing a mask? Remember, this is the year of community. Please remind them nicely to wear their mask. We are all doing this for each other. Should you have questions, you may contact the Dean of Students Office.

How will office hours be managed? All support services are still fully available to you; some are just offered in a different way. For example:

All seating areas for Phil’s and Wingra have been spaced out for social distancing. Also, Stations that used to be self-serve are now either served by Dining Staff or are single packaged items.
Health Services will see students for non-COVID concerns by appointment only. Personal counseling will be provided via telehealth.
Current information on library services during COVID-19 is available on on the library website.

Dear Students and Colleagues –

This week marks the official midterm of the Fall 2020 Semester. You have all been working hard, and staying on track under often challenging circumstances. There is a quote, widely attributed to American novelist James Lane Allen, that reads, “Adversity does not build character, it reveals it.” Your intelligence, creativity, and resilience reveals that you are equal to the task of making this community one that embraces opportunity. You support each other, and you are not afraid to reach out when you need a hand. Students and members of the faculty and staff: I applaud your commitment to each other and to this community of learners. Let’s keep going.

We’ve celebrated Pride Week on our campus with a series of virtual events this week that reinforce our commitment to each other. We’ve also just concluded national Hispanic Heritage Month and on Monday we celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day. These are the kinds of observances that remind us how fortunate we are to be part of a diverse community of people who make the fabric of Edgewood College as deep and rich as it is. I hope you’re enjoying the Theatre Department’s Social Justice Play Reading series – presented via WebEx. Next week is particularly intriguing for me. It’s the Shakespeare classic “Measure for Measure.” And tonight at 7:00 pm the Music Department presents our first Fall concert, featuring the Chamber Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble, and the Wind and Percussion Ensemble. These are important examples of how we as a community carry on in the face of this pandemic. These events – Pride Week, Fine Arts performances, and many others - are marked by the intelligence, creativity, and resilience that reveals the true character of this community – your character, and your community.

Let’s keep it up - wear your mask, wash your hands, maintain physical distancing at all times, and tighten your social circles. This goes for on-campus and off-campus. I’ve been asked by several people if we have developed our plans for spring semester yet. I anticipate having information about that in next week’s message. Even as Wisconsin is in the national spotlight in the fight to slow the spread, we continue to do well navigating these days and weeks. Let’s keep it up, and let’s do it for each other.
