Any question, big or small, can be answered by the Dean of Students Office.
How can I Mask Up, Back Up, and Wash Up effectively on campus? Wear your mask! Masks should cover your nose and mouth and should be worn indoors in public spaces and outdoors when you can not effectively be physically distant from others. If you do not own a mask, you may purchase one in the Campus Store. Back Up: practice physical distancing by leaving 6 feet between you and others. Wash up: wash your hands often.
What should I do if I was exposed to someone with COVID-19? Report any potential exposure or symptoms to the Dean of Students Office and follow any instructions they provide to seek medical care or to quarantine.
What should I do if I see another student who isn't wearing a mask? Remember, this is the year of community. Please remind them nicely to wear their mask. We are all doing this for each other. Should you have questions, you may contact the Dean of Students Office.
How will office hours be managed? All support services are still fully available to you; some are just offered in a different way. For example:
Dear Students and Colleagues –
This week, on Wednesday, the Christian members of our community began the season of Lent. The word “Lent” comes from the same origin as the word “lengthen.” Lent is a liturgical season preparing us for Easter, and it is a recognition that days are growing longer as spring approaches (I know, spring seems a long way off, given the temperatures we’ve experienced this past week). It is encouraging to realize that, just as spring will eventually come, we are beginning to realistically anticipate the end of this pandemic. This week’s message includes two important messages relating to the pandemic.
First, by now, I trust many (most?) of you students have read the email from Edgewood Central, inviting you to apply for Emergency Relief Funds. Let me say again that it is important that all students—undergraduate and graduate, part-time and full-time—apply for these funds. They are available to offset costs and hardship brought on by the pandemic. We want you, our students, to achieve your academic goals. Please take a few short minutes and complete the simple application. If you have questions, please contact Edgewood Central.
Second, Wisconsin’s numbers related to the pandemic continue to trend in the right direction. Our numbers also tell a good story. We are currently at a very low level of positive cases, and we have remained at a low level so far this semester. In fact, on Wednesday of this week, for the first time since we began tracking cases in August, we had zero active cases. That says a lot about you and about this community. Let’s remember, while “zero” is a great place to be, the bigger and more important objective is managing through the pandemic such that our students, faculty, and staff remain healthy and engaged in this community of learners.
Now is not the time to let our guard down. We’re about a month into the Spring semester, with a month or so to go before break. Let’s continue to keep our circles tight, wear our masks, and support each other.
