Campus Climate at Edgewood College

In the spring of 2019, Edgewood College will administer its third Campus Climate Study. The main goal of this study is to better understand how healthy of a "climate" we create and foster.

The survey is administered on a triennial basis and explores the experiences, perceptions and behaviors of our campus community members. A positive Campus Climate sets the tone for a successful experience at Edgewood College and the study helps identify areas that may need to be addressed to ensure all feel welcome at Edgewood College.

Executive Summary

In spring 2013, Edgewood College conducted a Campus Climate Survey that was distributed to all faculty, staff, and students. The purpose of this survey was to better understand how “healthy” of a campus climate we currently have at Edgewood College and identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement.

Executive Summary – Students

In Spring 2016, Edgewood College conducted its second Campus Climate Study that was distributed via an online survey to each of our 2,234 students. The survey contained questions organized in five main sections: Overall Campus Climate, Personal Experiences, Perceptions of Campus Climate, Improving Campus Climate, and Demographics. A 45.3% undergraduate student response rate for the survey emphasizes the commitment that Edgewood’s students demonstrate in making our campus community a healthier one— together at Edgewood College.

This executive summary presents results by areas of reflection so that each of us can review the results and create our own answers to each reflective question and identify actions for improvement. The results are presented in a way that allows each reader to form their own impressions and ideas regarding the results.

In the Spring of 2016, Edgewood College conducted its second Campus Climate Study that was distributed via an online survey to each of our 319 faculty and 279 staff. The survey contained questions organized in five main sections: Overall Campus Climate, Personal Experiences, Perceptions of Campus Climate, Improving Campus Climate, and Demographics. A 50.2% (64.5% of staff and 37.6% of faculty) response rate for the survey emphasizes the commitment that Edgewood’s faculty and staff demonstrate in making our campus community a healthier one—together.

In our third Campus Climate Survey provided to all faculty, staff, and students, we continue to work to improve the climate and experience at Edgewood College. This survey seeks to help us better understand the health of our campus climate and allows us to explore the experiences, perceptions and behaviors of our campus community members. A positive campus climate sets the tone for a successful experience at Edgewood College. The results of this 2019 survey show us that while we are making progress, there is still much to be done as we work to be a diverse and inclusive campus.

The student survey contained questions organized in five main sections: Overall Campus Climate, Personal Experiences, Perceptions of Campus Climate, Improving Campus Climate, and Demographics. Of the 1,348 undergraduate students invited to participate in the survey, 19.7% shared their perceptions and experiences to help us make our campus community more inclusive and supportive.

In our third Campus Climate Survey provided to all faculty, staff, and students, we continue to work to improve the climate and experience at Edgewood College. This survey seeks to help us better understand the health of our campus climate and allows us to explore the experiences, perceptions and behaviors of our campus community members. A positive campus climate sets the tone for a successful experience at Edgewood College. The results of this 2019 survey show us that while we are making progress, there is still much to be done as we work to be a diverse and inclusive campus.

The employee survey contained questions organized in five main sections: Overall Campus Climate, Personal Experiences, Perceptions of Campus Climate, Improving Campus Climate, and Demographics. Of the 619 employees invited to participate in the survey, 42% shared their perceptions and experiences highlighting the commitment of our faculty and staff to improve our campus climate.
