Jackie Polite ’12 Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund

jackie-Polite

Thank you to the many classmates, colleagues, friends and family who have contributed to this special scholarship fund. Your outpouring of love in Jackie’s memory made it possible for us to award three scholarships to Edgewood College nursing students this fall.

Recently, one of Jackie's former patients, Rudy Gebhardt, and his wife Linda, contacted us with the news that they are raising additional funds for this scholarship fund in memory of Rudy’s organ donor and in celebration of his 70th birthday and 7th Life Birthday! Details are available in this flier if you would like to join Linda and Rudy to honor Jackie’s legacy and help us to help a fourth nursing student with their education.

Jacqueline "Jackie" Polite, 59, died on May 28, 2020, following a brief yet intense struggle with cancer. She had a successful career first in spiritual leadership and education, and then returned to college to pursue a nursing degree. She graduated from Edgewood College at the top of her class and was awarded the School of Nursing’s highest honor, the Mary Kelly-Powell Award. Upon graduation she was hired at UW Hospital where she found great fulfillment in serving others through her work as a registered nurse transplant coordinator who cared for liver and kidney transplant patients following their transplant surgery.

Jackie’s friends and co-workers have created this fund to continue her legacy by supporting the education of our future nurses. The fund will be used to award one or more scholarships, depending on the fund total, to Edgewood College undergraduate nursing students with a preference for a returning adult student who is pursuing a second career and is interested in specializing in organ transplants or procurement.
