The novel coronavirus threatens not only our health and well-being, but also the social bonds that give us strength and encouragement in difficult times. In the passage, God asks the people of Israel to look to God for strength and sustenance in a time of turmoil. Similarly, we must look to one another—friends, family, and neighbors—for strength, support, and healing in this moment of crisis. That the Israelites find relief and renewal in God’s protection should inspire us to believe in a bright future and a stronger community, one forged in the bonds created during this moment of struggle.
