If you are looking for a verse that will leave you wandering the Lenten wilderness, this is a good one. The ancient storyteller may have been trying to convey the depths of Abraham’s faith by his willingness to sacrifice Isaac, and scholars disagree on just who was testing whom. I see the depths of Abraham’s conviction in his continued faithfulness overcoming the natural anger of being 10 “tested” by God. Sometimes I feel tested. Sometimes I cannot help feeling angry with God. I am consoled by the thought that God can handle my anger.
