Saori Kubo

Chita-gun, Japan

BA '11 Graphic Design, graduated cum laude

Earned Silver ADDY® Award, February 2011

Children's author, award-winning graphic designer, and outstanding student Saori Kubo assumed the next steps in her journey after graduation were toward her native Japan. She was finalizing the details, when she received an unexpected (but very welcome) surprise.

She sent an email to some of her colleagues on campus, which appears below with her permission.

"I have exciting news to share with you.

I was about to get a flight ticket to Japan two weeks ago, and I got a phone call from a Japanese game company in California to have an interview with them for the position of Web Designer. I didn't know much about that field, but I thought that it would be a good experience, so I tried my best on that job interview through a webcam. And last week I received an email from them that they were interested in interviewing me for another position, and I did interview with them again for the Graphic Designer position. They really liked my works that I have done for the Library Archives and the Center for Global Education. And I got a job offer soon after!!!

This company is asking me to move to California as soon as possible, so I need to leave Madison this Thursday, the 20th."

Congratulations, Saori!
