Madison, Wis. (October 9, 2013) – Edgewood College is pleased to announce the appointment of David Wells as the Director of the Edgewood College Gallery. Mr. Wells began his service with the College at the beginning of the Fall 2013 semester.
As Director, Mr. Wells will steward the permanent collection of the College, and curate exhibitions in the Edgewood College Gallery, located in The Stream on campus.
“David brings a wealth of experience and deep knowledge of contemporary art and artists to his role as Gallery Director,” Professor Melanie Herzog, Chair of the Art Department, said. “His connections within the Madison arts community and beyond, and his commitment to bringing diverse artists and audiences to the College will continue to make the Edgewood College Gallery a compelling arts venue for our students, the College community, and our guests. I am delighted that he has joined us.”
Mr. Wells has been an active figure in the arts in Madison, and beyond. His previous professional appointments include Executive Director of Edenfred, the Terry Family Foundation’s creative arts residency in Madison; Director of the Design Gallery in the School of Human Ecology at the UW-Madison; and Development Consultant for the Madison Ballet.
An accomplished artist in his own right, Mr. Wells’ work has been exhibited in such varied venues as the Office of the Mayor of the City of Madison, Sundance Cinemas in Madison, the Memorial Union at UW-Madison, at the Ruth Bachofner Gallery in Santa Monica, California, and at the Gallerie Califia in Horazdovice, Czech Republic. He will be exhibiting at the Overture Center galleries in Madison December 16, 2013 through March 2, 2014.
A native of Wisconsin, Mr. Wells holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California.
