New Agreement Makes Sweet Sound for Students, Audiences

Madison, Wis. (September 26, 2018) – Edgewood College and Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart have entered into a collaboration that will benefit both students and patrons of music for years to come.

When the High School’s new Performing Arts Center is completed in 2019, music students at Edgewood College will have access to new facilities for both rehearsals and for performances.

“Partnership is one of the core values of the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa who sponsor both the High School and the College, and this partnership is special because it will have such a profound impact on students at both institutions and the broader community,” Scott Flanagan, President of Edgewood College, said. “We are excited that our faculty, students, and community performers will now have the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a physical environment that matches their outstanding talent and dedication.”

“In terms of learning, students will be able to clearly and accurately hear the other members of their ensembles – the improvement in acoustics will be amazing for our students,” Beatriz Aguilar, Professor in Music and Chair of the Music Department, said. “Our Music Media and Production majors will now have access to a professional environment for sophisticated recording with superb quality. Audiences for our concerts will appreciate the new space perhaps most of all.”

Construction on the new Performing Arts Center at Edgewood High School began this summer. The 465-seat facility is expected to be ready for students and audiences in the fall of 2019. The Performing Arts Center is funded through the generosity of philanthropic gifts from Edgewood High School alumni, parents and friends as well as funds generated from a long-term usage agreement with Edgewood College.
