Summer Scholars ceremony

Madison, Wis. (July 24, 2019) – The inaugural Summer Scholars program at Edgewood College wrapped up earlier this month, with nearly 40 young minds now more ready than ever to begin middle school this fall.

Over the course of a week, Scholars experienced project-based classes in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences, all taught by faculty at Edgewood College. The courses were developed with an emphasis on college readiness skills and were reinforced by current students at Edgewood College who served as mentors to the soon-to-be sixth graders throughout the week.

“We’re looking forward to a fabulous future for these young people,” Sarah Stoehr, Pre-College Programs Coordinator, said. “We know that this type of exploration and discovery – especially when combined with fun – can help build the next generation of leaders, scholars, and thinkers.”

The highlight of the week featured an academic showcase from each of the four classes: Ceramics - Clay, Fire and the Physical World; Modeling Body Organs; Capturing Crime; and Citizenship in American History. The students also welcomed family members for a mini-graduation ceremony to conclude a great week.
