Department Head of Clinical Education and Lab Immersion
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
Edgewood College’s Henry Predolin School of Nursing (SoN) seeks an experienced nursing professional to serve as the Department Head of Clinical Education and Lab Immersion for the Online Accelerated BSN Program. This key leadership position is responsible for overseeing the clinical components of the program and coordinating student immersion experiences on campus. The role includes supervising clinical faculty, collaborating with simulation, lab skills, and physical assessment faculty, and ensuring exceptional clinical and lab-based learning experiences.
This is a hybrid position. While much of the work may be completed remotely, the Department Head must be available to be on campus in Madison, WI, during student immersion periods to plan, lead, and participate in simulation, skills lab, and physical assessment activities.
Position Summary
The Department Head of Clinical Education and Lab Immersion will lead the planning, coordination, and evaluation of clinical education and student immersions. This includes securing clinical placements, managing clinical faculty, supporting student progression, and integrating both clinical and lab-based education into the broader curriculum. The role ensures compliance with program goals and accreditation standards and provides leadership during campus-based immersion events in partnership with simulation, lab, and assessment faculty.
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Clinical Education Leadership
- Manage all aspects of clinical education, including approving placements, faculty oversight, and student support.
- Partner with clinical agencies to secure and maintain high-quality placement sites.
- Serve as the primary liaison with clinical partners and preceptors.
- Travel to Madison, WI, to support immersion experiences and assist with clinical instruction, skills labs, and simulations.
Immersion and Skills-Based Learning Oversight
- Collaborate with simulation, nursing lab skills, and physical assessment faculty to plan, organize, and lead student immersion events.
- Supervise and coordinate immersion activities including simulation scenarios, hands-on skills development, and assessment labs.
- Ensure that immersion experiences align with course objectives and promote clinical readiness.
Faculty Collaboration and Support
- Mentor and support clinical faculty in teaching, evaluation, and professional development.
- Lead regular faculty meetings and ensure alignment with clinical goals and standards.
- Assist faculty in addressing student performance concerns and supporting remediation as needed.
Student Support and Progression
- Oversee and assign clinical placements based on student needs and program objectives.
- Address student concerns related to clinical or immersion experiences.
- Conduct virtual meetings with students to provide academic coaching and advising.
Curriculum Integration
- Work with faculty and program leadership to integrate clinical and lab components into the overall curriculum.
- Collaborate with the Lab Coordinator and Simulation Specialist to align clinical, lab, and simulation learning.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards across all clinical and immersion experiences.
Administrative and Operational Oversight
- Maintain accurate records of clinical sites, contracts, and student placements.
- Assist with clinical site planning and budget needs.
- Support onboarding and training of new clinical and immersion faculty.
- Participate in accreditation activities and represent the program with external stakeholders.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
- Master’s degree in Nursing
- Active RN license in Wisconsin or eligibility to obtain.
- Significant RN experience in varied clinical settings.
- Experience teaching clinical nursing courses.
Preferred
- Experience in simulation or lab-based instruction.
- Background in online nursing education.
- Knowledge of CCNE or other accreditation standards for nursing programs.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong background in clinical nursing practice and education.
- Experience managing clinical placements and preceptor relationships.
- Familiarity with simulation-based learning, lab skills instruction, and physical assessment education.
- Leadership and mentoring abilities for faculty and staff.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of accreditation requirements and curriculum development in online and hybrid settings.
- Competency with digital learning tools and virtual communication platforms.
