Nurse Anesthesia Academic Program Specialist
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
The Henry Predolin College of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, Department of Anesthesiology, is searching for a dynamic, detail-oriented, highly organized individual to join their Education Team. This person will have the opportunity to work with Anesthesiology faculty, and students as an education team member.
Responsibilities include support of the DNP-NA education program operations, including student recruitment, advising, and clinical and lab coordination. The position also coordinates program events (retreats, graduation, special events), OR shadowing, and ACLS/BLS course coordination.
Responsibilities:
Marketing/Admissions
- Develop comprehensive recruitment plan that generates a strong and diverse applicant pool of aspiring DNP-NA students.
- Coordinate admission process.
- Serve as initial point of contact for questions for admitted students regarding program requirements and logistics.
- Meet with students regarding program-specific questions.
Academic Advising
- Coordinates academic advising services within DNP-NA program.
Clinical Site Management
- Coordinate with Program Directors to establish and maintain partnerships with clinical agencies to provide appropriate teaching-learning experiences.
- Initiates contact and meets with hospital/community personnel to establish new clinical placements.
- Maintains current contracts and establishes new contracts with all clinical agencies.
- Coordinates student compliance with agency (on-boarding) policies for DNP-NA students.
- Remains current regarding agency compliance requirements for student placements and serves as a student and faculty resource.
- Serves as a resource for students regarding academic schedules, clinical selection, and general progression and policy questions.
- Implements clinical selection procedure every semester (posting of site description options, assignment of clinical sections in collaboration with department heads, posting of clinical assignments)
Contributes to the development, implementation, administration, coordination, and evaluation of the DNPNA program to ensure effectiveness in meeting departmental and student development goals and initiatives. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
- Utilizes independent judgement regarding development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation for one or more academic programs, initiatives, or events
- Fosters strong relationships with current and potential healthcare organizations to facilitate clinical/practicum placements at the graduate level.
- Oversees the placement of students in clinical/practicum sites.
- Engages and informs the program director regarding aspects of the clinical/practicum program education.
- Acts as a liaison between the student, the faculty, and the clinical/practicum site and/or preceptor to ensure effective communication and exchange of information and evaluation.
- Maintains clinical and practicum records for the program in conformance with state and federal requirements.
- Facilitates the clinical/practicum orientation process.
- Manages student files with preceptor/clinical site documentation requirements.
- Identifies program, needs, contributes to the development of unit workflows, schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, events, and interviews.
- Assesses potential clinical/practicum sites and monitors current clinical/practicum sites to ensure students are placed in learning environments that meet the needs of the individual program(s).
- Serves as a resource for students regarding academic schedules, clinical selection, and general progression and policy questions.
- Coordinates program components and evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement.
- May supervise the day-to-day activities of one or more academic programs and resolves issues exercising discretion to meet unit goals.
- Coordinates education events such as graduation, retreats, orientation, and recruitment events.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
- Bachelors degree in a related field required. Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years of administrative experience (preferred).
- Experience in Graduate Nursing Education or Student Services desirable.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer experience required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and techniques.
- Ability to interact with a wide variety of internal and external contacts.
- Ability to work independently and to problem-solve.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Ability to transition effectively between tasks to maximize efficient use of time.
- Ability to show discretion in handling confidential personnel information and situations.
- Ability to interpret and apply policy to situations that arise.
