WHAT LED YOU TO EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY?

Tracey moved to Madison from Vietnam in 2018 to study abroad at East High School. She later began her collegiate journey at Madison College, where she earned an associate degree in Pre-Healthcare and Liberal Arts. In August 2023, she transferred to Edgewood University to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

“I’ve always known Edgewood had a strong nursing program, she said, noting recommendations from nurses in the community. The combination of academic rigor and alignment with my own Catholic values made Edgewood the right fit to pursue my nursing degree.”

WHAT HAS YOUR ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE BEEN LIKE?

Tracey was drawn to nursing for its balance of compassion, communication, and hands-on patient care. Through clinicals and classroom learning, she has strengthened her critical thinking and problem-solving skills while gaining confidence in the invaluable experience of working directly with patients. These opportunities have helped her grow not only as a student, but as a future nurse preparing to make a meaningful impact.

“At the end of the day, you’re there for people at their most vulnerable, she reflects. I look forward to being able to provide competent, quality care.”

HOW HAS EDGEWOOD SUPPORTED YOU AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT?

Support from the Edgewood community has played a key role in Tracey’s success. She credits fellow international students, faculty, and staff for helping her stay on track academically and navigate the requirements of studying in the U.S. She also appreciates the university’s commitment to cultural competence and inclusion, noting that the support she’s received has helped her feel welcomed, respected, and encouraged throughout her journey.

“Knowing there were people who genuinely cared about my success made a huge difference. I never felt like I had to figure everything out on my own.”

WHAT WAS IT LIKE ADJUSTING TO LIFE IN THE UNITED STATES?

Like many international students, Tracey experienced culture shock when she first arrived – from learning new expressions to adjusting to American classroom expectations. Over time, she learned the importance of building connections and stepping outside her comfort zone.

“Universities in the United States aren’t just about academics. They’re about growing as a person and building community through everyday interactions.”

HOW DID YOU EXPERIENCE COMMUNITY AT EDGEWOOD?

Outside of class, Tracey enjoyed spending time with friends, exploring Madison, staying active, and even discovering restaurants that reminded her of home. She valued the strong sense of community woven throughout campus life – from the friendly faces that greeted her while she worked at the Welcome Desk to the professors whose support has been instrumental to her academic journey. Tracey felt truly connected to the Edgewood community.

“Coming from a culture that truly embraces and cares for its people, finding community at Edgewood has been a vital part of my experience.”
